Welcome to my new "Workout Wednesdays"! I decided I needed to follow something of a routine for this blog so I avoid these weeks of no posts. Anyway, I've got a cool thing for next Wednesday planned, but this week, I wanted to just post my tips on getting in your workout for the day.
Most of these ideas came from this blog post. You should really read it to get more good ideas and a recipe for protein balls. But here are the things I suggest to help you get up early to workout.
1. Get a workout buddy! I know sometimes it's really hard to find someone whose fitness level and goals match yours, let alone trying to match your schedule. But, if you know you have someone else counting on you, it will actually happen! If they need to get a workout done earlier than you, be flexible and go at the earlier time! I promise you won't regret it, especially if you bump up your bedtime a little bit. Oh, also figure out a schedule of who's driving so you take turns.
2. Set Your Alarm for the Right time: This was on that blog post above, and it was a novel idea to me. Instead of setting your alarm really early, knowing that you can hit the snooze button, set it for the latest possible time in order for you to make it in time. Does that make sense? Don't give yourself any buffer time, because guess what...you'll use it every time. So, train yourself to get up the first time the alarm goes off, and that'll actually give you more good quality sleep anyway, since you're not "snoozing" the entire time.
3. Set out your clothes the night before: Think of everything so you're not rustling through shoes, clothes, drawers, etc in the morning. Set out your bra, shirt, underwear, pants, socks and shoes. This will give you a little extra time to sleep, and if you're like me, your spouse who is still sleeping will appreciate you not using your cell phone flashlight. Can I tell you a secret? Sometimes I actually just get dressed in bed! I know that's not good because you should be up and that will give you less of a chance to back out. But the mornings I'm not driving it's nice :)
And there you have it. One thing I didn't mention that helps me is to figure out workout classes at your local gym. If you don't have a gym membership, then that's obviously something I wouldn't do. But it helps me have a deadline in the morning to get there.
So what about you? What are some essential things for you to get up and workout in the morning?
